Museum & Tasglann nan Eilean covers the islands of the Outer Hebrides (Scottish Gaelic: Na h-Eileanan Siar) from Barra (Eilean Bharraigh) in the South to Lewis (Eilean Leòdhais) in the North. It operates from two centres, Museum nan Eilean at Lews Castle, Stornoway (Scottish Gaelic: Caisteal Leòdhais, Steòrnabhagh) and Sgoil Lionacleit on the island of Benbecula (Scottish Gaelic: Beinn nam Fadhla or Beinn na Faoghla).

Museum nan Eilean is part of the Heritage Service for Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and have collections and information on the heritage of the Outer Hebrides. Collections of museum artefacts and archives along with galleries look at the stories of the Islands and Islanders. They show how the distinctiveness of the Outer Hebrides is shaped by a unique combination of land, sea and people.  Tracing how people have lived and worked from the earliest times to the present day and how their culture is expressed through the Gaelic language, religion and community life.
