AN URGENT APPEAL FROM STEVE DOUBLE MP (St Austell and Newquay)
This morning we are horrified to see that Malcolm Bell, CEO of 'Visit Cornwall' (a private company designed to promote the tourist 'industry in Cornwall for the benefit of its members) again encouraging second homeowners etc to make their way to Cornwall. We condemn this entirely. Already we are seeing instances of inadequate food provisions for our elderly population and on line grocery shopping delayed by weeks.
We now bring you this appeal from Mr Steve Double MP for St Austell and Newquay and our representative at the Council of Europe in respect of the Cornish National Minority:
Mr Double says:
"As a proud Cornishman I never thought I would say this - but please do NOT come to Cornwall for a holiday in the coming weeks.
I know its tempting but a holiday is NOT essential travel. We have enough to deal with on our own without people coming here with the virus and putting even more pressure on our NHS and supermarkets.
I know holiday firms are understandably worried about their business. But encouraging people to come on holiday is really not going to help."
