AUOB Glasgow march in support of Scottish independence expected to attract over 100,000

All Under One Banner (AUOB) have successfully organised a series of marches and rallies across Scotland in favour of independence. For years there has been an attempt to ignore, under report and constantly play down attendees at these marches. Now Police Scotland and the local council are getting decidedly nervous about the AUOB march in Glasgow on May 4th. The marches have always been good humoured and peaceful, but now police say they might not be able to handle the numbers expected to attend. 

The truth is that the media and authorities have had to admit that their reporting on support for the marches, so carefully minimised, have not been accurate. The forthcoming march in Glasgow means that the success of the demonstrations last year that drew an estimated 50-60,000 to Glasgow and possibly twice that number to Edinburgh, have to be taken into account to manage the event. Now the authorities have admitted that they expect some 100,000 people to march in favour of an independent Scotland in Glasgow on 4th May. Scottish newspaper published in Glasgow the Evening Times reported: “Police and fire chiefs are warning All Under One Banner’s plans to march from Kelvingrove Park to Glasgow Green on Saturday, May 4 could have a significant, detrimental impact on the city centre due to a larger than expected number of marchers.” This has not deterred AUOB who have stated that the march will go ahead as planned.  At present the start time is set for 1.30pm.
