I mentioned the IOM TT Race yesterday and as usual - that being my predilection - I was critical. Of course immediately there were cries of ‘he’s at in again whinging year after year’. But when I thought about it I’ve actually been ‘singing this tune’ for decades as I realised when I stumbled on an old recording I made over twenty years ago with Channel 5. Indeed I’ve probably been a critic since some of my critics were crawling around in nappies!
Now granted Channel 5 in those days didn’t quite have the kudos of last years BBC TV airing but give them their due they were ahead of the pack.
You ask yourself is it worth complaining (or should that be whinging) and arguing for greater safety does anyone listen - well the video answered that.
Back in the mid nineties ‘Mad Sunday’ was mayhem and I was arguing for speed limits on the mountain and one way etc so was anyone listening. At the time no one seemed to see it as feasible but since then thankfully better counsel has prevailed.
It seems it is worth campaigning so health permitting I’ll carry on for a few years more yet.
Image: A still frame from the Channel 5 report of ‘a ‘youthful’ me ‘whinging away about the TT’ in the mid nineties.
I’ll see if I can share a video upload later although the file is quite large. There are lots of noisy bikes and excited bikers though so everyone should enjoy it - so I will try to do my best!
