Roy Kennaugh - Sad loss of a truly great Manxman

Roy Kennaugh passed away suddenly on Wednesday evening 27th December. The response to his passing demonstrates the high regard in which he was held. As reported by Manx Radio: "The Isle of Man has lost one of its most prominent, active and energetic members of the national and cultural community." Roy Kennaugh was a key and very popular member of several organisations, including the Celtic League, Mec Vannin, Celtic Congress, Michael Heritage Trust, Michael Commissioners, and the Michael Players RBV. 

An article in Yn Commeeys Celtiagh - Celtic League Mannin has pointed to his many acheivements in the national movement and his contribution to Manx culture over the years. They go on to say:

'The Secretary General of the Celtic League is the latest in a number of individuals and organisations that have expressed sadness at the death of Roy Kennaugh who was Secretary of the Manx branch of the Celtic League. Rhisiart Talebot from Cornwall said:

“Roy will be sadly missed indeed and the news of his passing is utterly unexpected. Thinking of his family at this terrible time.”

Meanwhile Michael Commissioners on which Roy had served as a member and also Chairman has said that flags in the village will be flown at half mast until after his funeral.'

Roy's passing is a sad loss of a truly great Manxman and he will also be remembered at the Illiam Dhone Commemoration which takes place in Castletown, Isle of Man on Tuesday 2nd January. Sincere condolences go to his family and to all that knew him.
