News from the Celtic League:
‘Your life is turned upside down in minutes’
A moving expression of sympathy from the widower of murdered campaigning Irish journalist Veronica Guerin to the husband of British MP Jo Cox.
Speaking on RTE Radio Graham Turley described father-of-two Brendan Cox as being in the same position he found himself in 20 years ago.
“She was a woman just doing her normal day’s work as Veronica was and taken down. Brendan now has a huge, huge mountain to climb with two kids. I had one,” he said, referring to Cathal Turley, who was just six years old when his mother died.
“You’re just doing your normal day, being a husband and a father, and all of a sudden your life is turned upside down in minutes.”

In the case of Jo Cox, although it can be scant comfort, at least the police have speedily gotten to grips with resolving the crime and a person is in custody.
In the case of Veronica Guerin questions still remain unresolved and in the case of another campaigning journalist Martin O’Hagan shot while walking with his wife in Belfast no one has ever been held to account (link):
