Celtic Council of Australia Celebrate Australia Day 2016

Australia Day is celebrated on January 26 each year. The public holiday of Australia Day always occurs on January 26 no matter what day of the week it occurs. Australians consider January 26 with national pride, flying the Australian flag from businesses, homes, cars and gatherings. They attend festivals, fireworks, community and sporting events or gather for family barbecues at homes, parks or on the beach.

The Celtic Council of Australia were out in force to celebrate the day. Not least in Sydney's Bradfield Park with representatives of all the Celtic nations in attendance. Representatives of the Scottish Clans were centre stage with performances from the various Celtic nations including a rendition of the song Ellan Vannin and Manx Dancing in preparation for the 2016 Australian Celtic Festival April 28 to 1 May at Glen Innes which this year features the Isle of Man. 

Convener of the Celtic Council of Australia- Mrs Margaret Sharpe, herself a member of the Manx Society of New South Wales, described the day as a great success.
