ONR Pressed On Sellafield Safety Issues

Celtic League Mannin branch have written to the United Kingdom Office for Nuclear Regulation addressing several queries prompted by the recent BBC Panorama programme which highlighted safety issues at the Sellafield reprocessing plant.

Trust The United Kingdom? - Remember What They Did To The Chagos Islanders!

News from the Celtic League:

The Celtic League has supported the campaign by the Chagos Islanders to return to their homelands for almost two decades.

The Islanders were summarily evicted from their homes in a secret deal between the UK and US to establish a military base at Diego Garcia on the isolated Indian Ocean archipelago.

There has been a broad range of International protest about the injustice inflicted on these people who were displaced many hundreds of miles to the island of Mauritius.

'EU and Chinese Supertrawlers Destroy Fisheries Not Seals'

News from the Mannin Branch of the Celtic League:

Mannin branch environmental officer (Allen Moore) has reacted sharply to the controversy earlier this week about the shooting of seals off Scotland.

He says local fishermen are using seals as scapegoats and it is actually the predatory action of huge super trawlers from the EU and China that is destroying indigenous fishing communities globally.

Scotland: Call To End Seal Cull - Cruel Practices Alleged

There has been a call from animal welfare groups for the culling of seals in Scotland to be ended.

A report in the Scottish Sunday Herald says:

“ANIMAL welfare groups are demanding an end to the mass shooting of seals around Scotland's coast.

“Hundreds of the seals which have been shot so far were pregnant, feeding their young or failed to die instantly, according to a major new scientific study.

Irish Tourist Destination - Titanic Belfast - Named Best Visitor Attraction In Europe

The Titanic exhibition in Belfast (Irish: Béal Feirste) in the northeast of Ireland (Irish: Éire), has been named Europe’s Leading Visitor Attraction at the World Travel Awards 2016. Known as Titanic Belfast, more than three million people have visited the attraction since it opened in 2012. It  occupies the same location where the Titanic was built and launched by the shipbuilders Harland and Wolff. They built large slipways and graving docks to accommodate the construction of Titanic and her sister ships Olympic and Britannic.
