A Tradition Of Non Violent Resistance That Has Continued For Eighty Years

There’s understandable celebration in Ireland at present of the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising and the stand that patriotic Celts took against the power of the British State.

However this year also marks the 80th anniversary of an equally courageous stance taken in another Celtic country. It was a stance which was markedly different from the armed conflict in Ireland and which as waged by a very small but unique group of individuals and pacifists.

Manx Census Row Rumbles On

News From The Celtic League:

‘NATIONALITY is more than a flag, more than a culture, more than a language – it’s also having the courage to run your own affairs and not be in some other countries pocket”

A petition has been started to get Manx included as an option on the census form. It’s a long shot the forms are out now and probably people will have to improvise if they feel sufficiently animated by the issue to register a protest.

Most people I’ve spoken to (and that’s quite a few) have indicated they will just put MANX in the ‘Other’ option slot.

Pre-Hearing Of Bugaled Breizh Inquest Hears Call For Broader Enquiry

Earlier this month the Celtic League provided information to a Cornish activist working to support families of the Bugaled Breizh which sank suddenly off the Lizard in January 2004.

A NATO exercise was underway at the time and with a large concentration of submarines in the area or on transit to it (not to mention potential Russian Federation submarines gathering intelligence and observing the exercise). Families of those lost have always had an open mind about the possibility the vessel was snagged by a submarine and sunk.

Interceltic Festival Lorient To Commemorate Centenary Of 1916 Irish Rising

The Interceltic Festival of Lorient will celebrate the Centenary of Ireland's 1916 Rising.

Irish people joining the celebration include:

  • Lorcán Mac Mathúna - 1916 Visionaries and their words
  • The Actress Elaine O’Dea
  • Íde Nic Mhathúna, Martin Tourish, Daire Fougère, Eamonn Galdubh will play some tunes

Also, Erwan Fouéré, Irish Diplomate, member of Centre for European Policy Studies, and will talk about "Ireland, 100 years after 1916 Easter Rising"

The Hidden Dangers Of The Dyke

That the munitions deposited in Beaufort Dyke poses an ongoing danger was graphically illustrated two decades ago when 100s of devices disturbed by work in the area of the Dyke came ashore.

The Dump site covers an area of about 12 x 8 miles in the North Channel but as this article from the Glasgow Herald (to which CELTIC LEAGUE contributed information to) confirms munitions were disposed of outside the parameters of the dump site and the debris cover an area from NE of the Isle of Man to the Clyde.

The Gaelic League Take Aim at the Northern Ireland Elections to Promote the Irish Language

Conradh na Gaeilge (The Gaelic League) are sharpening their electoral strategy skills with an all-out effort to make candidates for the Northern Ireland Assembly responsive to the concerns of the Irish language community and supporters of the Celtic tongue.  The election will take place the 5th of May, 2016.

Concert At The Bunscoill Ghaelgagh Thursday 14 April, 2016

Bunscoill Ghaelgagh is a Manx-language primary school in St John's, Isle of Man (Manx Gaelic: Balley Keeill Eoin, Mannin). The school, which is a previous winner of the annual Reih Bleeaney Vanannan award for its work in preserving and promoting Manx language, culture and heritage, has grown from strength to strength since it opened in 2001.
