A plan to develop the Isle of Man (Mannin) into an example of sustainable living has been officially launched. The EcoVannin initiative, is a joint venture between environmental groups, local businesses and Government departments. The aim is to encourage cooperation and long-term planning to preserve the environment and achieve sustainable economic growth. The group’s priorities have been divided into categories that include: business, energy, food, the environment, transport, media and Government.

It appears the flight by Two Russian TU95 Bear bomber reconnaissance aircraft into Irish and United Kingdom controlled airspace was more disruptive than first reported and more dangerous.

We reported on the event last month and on allegations that the aircraft actually overflew Southern Cornwall. The latter allegation, made by two Cornish women, was strongly denied by the UK Ministry of Defence.

Cornwall Council has welcomed today’s pledge from Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg to ensure that the Government will continue to provide financial support for the Cornish Language Partnership (CLP).

Scots Gaelic Continues to Strengthen - Major Breakthrough for Gaelic Medium Education

Dr Alasdair Allan, Scotland’s Minister for Learning, Science and Scotland’s Languages attended an event in Stornoway Town Hall in Scotland’s Western Isles to inaugurate a program for the granting of Professional Graduate Diploma in Education for teachers at the secondary level.

The Stornoway Gazette, reporting on Dr. Allan’s visit described the launch of a secondary level teaching certificate for Gaelic medium instruction as follows: “The course is transformational as it provides a bridge between Gaelic Medium Primary Education and Gaelic University and College courses.”

I do not need to restate our opposition to the British Irish Council (BIC) the Celtic League set out its objections to the body within months of the BI being founded.

I feel sure the Celtic League will confirm its disdain for the concept at its forthcoming AGM in Dublin.

However it is in place and we (the taxpayers) are all paying for it – at a time when incomes and services are stretched as never before – so what is it doing?

The Kernow branch of the Celtic League has a range of resolutions scheduled for consideration at the CL AGM in Dublin in April.

The six resolutions range over policy and constitutional matters and include consideration of domestic issues and also support for their Brythonic kinsmen in Breizh and Cymru.

An additional resolution focuses on the commitments given by the UK to Scotland during the referendum.
