The Manx Nationalist Party Mec Vannin held its Annual General Meeting on Monday the 11th of May 2015 at St Patricks Hall in Peel.

Minutes of the 2014 AGM were read and agreed and reports from Officers presented.

It was recorded that the Party had an active year with regular monthly meetings held and the usual participation in Annual events such as Tynwald Day and Illiam Dhone Day had gone of smoothly.

With the news that the British Army would be recruiting for a “Manx Reserve” it wasn’t going to be long before Manx citizens expressed their objections to what amounts to a recruitment drive for a foreign army with a somewhat soiled reputation. Indeed, the Celtic League’s Director of Information, Bernard Moffatt, has already covered the matter in a local historical context, a moral historical context, and an administrative historical context.

The Chief Minister of the Isle of Man, Allan Bell, has said that the good relations he had developed with former Scottish First Minister, Alex Salmond, have continued with his successor, Nicola Sturgeon, following her elevation to the leadership of the SNP and First Minister of Scotland.

In the same week that the Celtic League has called for international action to protect fishermen from increased NATO and Russian submarine war games a French court has closed a case on the Breton trawler, Bugaled Breizh, which sank off the Lizard in January 2004 with the loss of her five man crew.

The Celtic League has written to the Manx Chief Minister (CM) asking if past protocol in respect of the establishment of British military forces in the Isle of Man, as laid down by the ‘Lord of Man’ many years ago, was adhered to prior to the decision to raise and station ‘reserve forces’ here.

Ireland is once again being urged to play a leading role in combating the threat posed to fisherman around our shores caused by increased submarine activity involving NATO and the Russian Federation.

In both March and April there were incidents in which Scottish and Irish fishing vessels were snagged by submarines off the Hebrides and in the Irish Sea.

Mec Vannin has said it is past time the Lt Governor should pay for his own ‘digs’.

The Nationalist Party feel that the Manx taxpayer have tolerated for too long the burden of accommodating someone who contributes little to the Manx community and believe if the Crown (actually the UK) want a ‘symbolic head’ in one of their few remaining ‘colonies’ they should foot the bill.

This week the MOD has announced that it is to establish military reserve forces in the Crown Dependency (a colony of the British Crown) the Isle of Man.

So what sort of role can they be expected to play? Well what about killing innocent people for a start?
