Isle of Man: Yn Chruinnaght Snaps Up Award Winning Band for Festival

The Island's biggest annual Inter-Celtic festival, Yn Chruinnaght, will return to Peel later this month, with a line-up of performers reflecting all that's best about music, song and dance from the Celtic Diaspora, with fringe events in Ramsey, Laxey and Douglas.

A coup for this year's festival is securing the Anglo-Irish band Flook, described as possessing a rare blend of fiery technical brilliance, delicate ensemble interaction and a bold, adventurous musical imagination, at the Centenary Centre in Peel.

The Irish Naval Service vessel LÉ Niamh left Cork this weekend for the Mediterranean where she will take over the migrant rescue role already being undertaken in that area by the LÉ Eithne.

Since being deployed to the Mediterranean as part of a strengthened EU search and rescue response the Irish Naval service has rescued almost 3,500 migrants.

The Irish government has welcomed the decision last month of a Military Tribunal in Lebanon to start hearing the case of Mahmoud Bazzi who is alleged to have been responsible for the murder of two soldiers of the UN Irish contingent to UNIFIL in that country.

Tynwald Day (Manx: Laa Tinvaal) is the National Day of the Isle of Man (Mannin) and is traditionally held on 5th July. The Manx Flag flew high on 5 July 2015 at the site of the Australian Standing Stones, Glen Innes, NSW, Australia. Manx Bonnag was eaten, which is a traditional bread that has been a Manx staple for hundreds of years. Along with this fish and potato pie and a white liquor based on buttermilk was served as part of the ceremony.

NCA ON THE CASE OF NAMA NI PORTFOLIO

The NCA is on the case, but where are the Manx Police or for that matter the Manx media?

The United Kingdom National Crime Agency (NCA) is to undertake an inquiry into the NAMA property portfolio allegations following claims made last week in Dail Éireann that £7million pound connected to sales of a one and a quarter billion pound batch of NAMA properties in the North had ended up in a Manx bank account.

BRETON LANGUAGE EQUALITY CAMPAIGN TARGETS SNCF

Activists have been peacefully targeting railway stations in Breizh calling for equality in the usage and display of the Breton language.

There has been considerable upset over signage which displays the French language in large letters with Breton written in smaller letters beneath.

Isle of Man: Newly Commissioned Composition to Premiere at Yn Chruinnaght Inter-Celtic Festival

Thanks to the Malcolm Scott Dickinson Trust, a recently commissioned work celebrating Celtic music, song, language and dance, will be premiered at the Island's annual inter-Celtic festival Yn Chruinnaght later this month at the Centenary Centre in Peel.

Composed by local musician, David Kilgallon, and entitled The Gathering (English translation of Yn Chruinnaght) this innovative piece incorporates a series of movements and sections which will feature a number of talented singers, musicians and speakers from six Celtic nations.

BRITTANY : LANGUAGE PROTESTS CONTINUE

On Saturday 4 July 2015, Ai‘Ta, a group whose primary objective is to defend and promote the Breton language, targeted what the media call France ’s favourite village.

A small but vocal and enthusiastic group of Ai‘Ta members gathered in front of the town hall at Perroz/Perroz-Guirec to highlight the total lack of respect of the municipality towards the Breton language.
