Protests over disappeared during Basque conflict

Earlier this month a Basque campaigners demanded answers to the issue of political activists who disappeared in Spain and France over the past over forty years. August 30th is International Day of the Disappeared.

'Welsh in the Workplace' Fair to be held at Cardigan Castle

Welsh language will be the focus of a special event at the beginning of October with a Welsh in the Workplace Fair. This is Ceredigion’s first ‘Welsh in the Workplace’ Fair and the aim will be to encourage and support businesses who want to increase bilingual provision in their daily work. This is part of the work being undertaken by officers of Cered: Menter Iaith Ceredigion’s Welsh in the Workplace who are promoting and assisting businesses in the Mid Wales county of Ceredigion (Sir Ceredigion) to benefit from the use of Welsh in their business.

Welsh government and Animal Rights bodies resist 'Badger cull' call

Efforts by Undeb Amaethwyr Cymru (the Farmers Union of Wales) to have a widespread badger cull in England extended to Wales are being resisted by the Welsh government and by animal rights bodies such as the RSPCA.

The FUW say:

"The Welsh cattle industry has simply had enough and the FUW is now calling on the Welsh Government to properly recognise the impact of this insidious disease on farming families.”

However the government say:

"Evidence shows that most causes of Bovine TB in cattle in Wales results from cattle-to-cattle transmission,"

Rayner Hoff - Manx sculptor who became famous in Australia

Rayner Hoff (27 November 1894 – 19 November 1937) was born in Braddan on the Isle of Man (Mannin). He was the son of a stone and wood carver and began helping his father on architectural commissions at a very young age. He studied drawing, design, and modelling, from 1910 to 1915 and during the First World War fought in the trenches of France. After which he studied at the Royal College of Art in London. In 1922, Rayner Hoff won the Prix de Rome which allowed him the opportunity to study in Rome.

Natural Resources Wales congratulated for banning shooting on public land

Natural Resources Wales (Welsh: Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru) is a Welsh Government sponsored body that manages the natural resources of Wales. It aims to pursue sustainable management of these natural resources. There has been a joint three year long campaign by  Animal Aid and the League Against Cruel Sports against National Resources Wales (NRW) leasing public land for shooting. They presented a 12,700 signature petition calling for an end to the practice.
