Lamballe - Lambal

Lamballe (Breton: Lambal) in the Côtes-d'Armor department located 13 miles (21 km) east-southeast of Saint-Brieuc. It is a significant commercial centre, which is famous for its stud farm in the centre of town. Capital of the Duchy of Penthievre since the tenth century, Lamballe was a fortified city and once amongst the most important strongholds of Brittany. There are a number of half timbered buildings listed in the old town. Including the Mathurin Méheut museum a beautiful half-timbered fifteenth century property that honours the memory of the famous painter Mathurin Méheut (1882-1958).
