Summer programme with BreizhEire

Demat d'an holl/ bonjour à tous /

dia dhaoibh uilig / Hi everybody,

Dear Friends, Breton and Brittany lovers,

Summer is just about to start!!

Breizheire invites you to join for a dance or two & for some great Breizh events in Eire!

Here is the programme that we put together for you:

Abuse and anti Cornish racism

We get to see a lot of bigotry and ignorance (example received below in our mail box today and attached) and some would be shocked at the content of some of the emails and messages we are sent.

Some we directly report to the police and other authorities via the 'True Vision' website because they are in direct contravention of our rights as Cornish people given under the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.

Others we just laugh at.

Cowethas an Yeth Kernewek Cambron (The Camborne Cornish Language Fellowship) will be starting new Cornish language classes

From 12th September Cowethas an Yeth Kernewek Cambron, (The Camborne Cornish Language Fellowship) will be starting new Cornish language classes.  As well as a group for absolute beginners there will be an intermediate group. The Fellowship's aim is to improve the knowledge of Cornish but classes are structured in such a way that students can attempt exams if they so wish.

Guldize 2013

Message from the organisers of Guldize 2013, the Cornish harvest festival:

Following a break in 2012 the celebration of Guldize, The Cornish Feast Day at the end of the Harvest, returns to Penzance.

I am writing to invite you to the event which this year will be held on Saturday 28th of September 2013.

Happy St Yves' Day

To all our Breton friends, Happy St Yves' Day on 19th May. St Yves Day is widely celebrated in Brittany and around the Breton world. Our best wishes to everyone in Brittany and around the world who are celebrating Saint Yves Day.

Saint Yves was born on 17th October 1253 at Kermartin in Brittany. He graduated in civil law and became a lawyer and judge who was famous for defending the poor without taking payment. Saint Yves was ordained in 1284 and when he retired from law in 1287 became a preacher. The feast day marks the date of his death on 19th May 1303 at Louannec, Brittany.

Celtic Beltane Festival, New Franklin, Ohio

The 9th Annual Celtic Beltane Festival, takes place in New Franklin, Ohio on 18th May. This exciting event has dancing, music and great family entertainment. Details are as below:

Margaret Thatcher and the Celts

Today 17 April 2013 the funeral of ex-British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was held. She was seen as a very 'English' Prime Minister who did not receive the level of support in Celtic areas that she gained in certain parts of England. In Scotland she appeared out of step with public opinion and is associated with industrial decline, the poll tax and also a failure to understand the desire by the Scottish people to gain more autonomy. Many would say it was the experience of the Thatcher governments that encouraged many doubters in Scotland to seek self-government.
