Remarkable scenes, as reported by newsnetscotland, took place today outside of the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) Scotland HQ in Glasgow. Protesters marched from St Georges Square in Glasgow to the BBC's HQ in Scotland at Pacific Quay. This comes after months of complaints and allegations of blatant bias against independence in BBC broadcasts.
It is an insult to Scottish voters that the BBC, which is a public broadcaster and funded by Scottish voters, has been seen to be incapable of providing impartial referendum coverage. As it stands, one of the largest news networks in the country, BBC Scotland, is still owned and operated by the BBC headquarters in London. Whether or not voters decide to officially declare independence from the United Kingdom on September 18th, this campaign will change Scotland and the way that it is viewed internationally forever.
It is now more crucial than ever for national news to be honestly presented to the Scottish people. No matter what the result of the referendum is, what has been driven home to people during this campaign is that the body called BBC Scotland is in fact an appendage of the UK BBC. Controlled by London and ultimately answerable to the Westminster government. This now has to change.
