Support for Commissioners Call for Review of Bank Services to Welsh Speakers
NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE
The Celtic League Secretary General has written to Welsh Language Commissioner, Meri Huws, supporting her call for improvements to Bank service provision to Welsh speakers in the country.
In his letter Rhisiart Talebot says:
“I am writing to express my thanks for undertaking the review of Welsh language services by banks, in your capacity as Welsh Language Commissioner, which all our branches would welcome, not least our branch in Cymru.
Over the last few years especially I have been made aware by our members in Cymru that the Welsh language services provided by some of the banks has deteriorated, with attitudes of some staff at banks becoming increasingly problematic when services are requested in the Welsh language, including at our own Cymru bank account of Lloyds.
We will promote the consultation for the remainder of the month and encourage our members in Wales to engage with the process by providing their experiences and/or any evidence they have of good/poor practice.”
