Scotland vote for pro-independence majority to Scottish Parliament

Nicola Sturgeon has described the Scottish National Party's (SNP) fourth consecutive victory in the Scottish Parliament election as  "historic and extraordinary". She pointed out that her party had won the most constituency seats and secured the highest share of the constituency vote in the history of devolution. In Scotland the SNP won 64 seats, the Conservatives 31, Labour 22, the Scottish Greens eight and Liberal Democrats four. Along with the pro-independence Greens  the results of the election is clear. Those parties that support independence won the election, those that support the continued union of Scotland within the United Kingdom lost.

Much of the London based media had a sustained and at times vicious campaign against the SNP leading up to the election. Despite this, it was a remarkable victory for the SNP, albeit that the same London based media squeal in denial of the result. As always, this is expected and they have to be ignored. In her victory speech Nicola Sturgeon told supporters the result proved a second independence vote was the "will of the country" and said any Westminster politician who stood in the way was "picking a fight with the democratic wishes of the Scottish people".
