Prestatyn is a seaside town on the Irish Sea coast of north-east Wales. Evidence points to the location of the present town having been occupied since prehistoric times. Prehistoric tools have been found in the caves of nearby Craig Fawr. The Romans were stationed in the area. The Normans built a castle here which was destroyed by Owain Gwynedd in 1167. In the 19th and 20th centuries the town became a popular seaside tourist destination.
In the Welsh newspaper the Daily Post they report the story of something else that the town is becoming known for, the ghostly 'White Lady of Prestatyn' who haunts the seafront. 'Over the years dozens of residents and holidaymakers claim to have spotted the tall figure of the White Lady of Prestatyn roaming the promenade' the article reports. She is said to wear a long flowing white dress and is seen during twilight hours. Walkers have described a sense of unease before the encountering the apparition. Dog walkers talk of their animals becoming scared and running away. Many in the town believe the ghost to be friendly but it is not known why she haunts the promenade of the Welsh town. Local legend has it that she threw herself into the sea.
There are many reported haunted locations in this part of Wales. A land rich in history with ancient standing stones and medieval castles. Amongst them all the “White Lady of Prestatyn” is one the most often seen ghosts.
