Kernow Matters news circular - Crisis hits Cornwall & petition - G7 and overtourism, business owners speak out

Crisis Hits Cornwall - Is Anybody Listening?

The efforts of Cornwall Councillors Julian German and Andrew Mitchell in their meeting with the distant and uncaring Westminster Government's Minister for Housing and Rough Sleeping, Eddie Hughes MP, are to be commended and we thank them for telling the out of touch politician up there about the disastrous effects of the now out of control second homes market in Cornwall.

As prices spiral out of control, we did not expect a Westminster politician to be interested. How refreshing to see that the Welsh Government are addressing the issue. How predictable that the Westminster Government does nothing.

As many Cornish posters have remarked, a simple case of "follow the money'.

When you see a tiny property like that pictured below up for sale for £429,995, you don't have to be entirely disconnected to realise there is a crisis in Cornwall and that the Westminster Government show no sign of even reading their obligations under the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities article 5.2 in respect of the massed immigration into the Duchy causing huge threat to our local traditions.

Well, this petition has been public for three days and has already received over 33,000 signatures!

Perhaps you would consider signing and sharing it in the knowledge that Cornish people are now being made homeless?

G7 and out of control tourism - a toxic mix

A photograph which has appeared in the London media has been widely circulated on social media and has caused a huge outcry.

Yes, we have been well and truly 'Johnsonned' and just as the debauchee marries his third wife too. We can be thankful that he is not our Prime Minister for how on earth can you respect a man like him?

Let us now examine the views of two local businesses, one concerned with the effects of the G7 and the second with over tourism.

The first has his business in Lelant......

The second has his business in Fowey......

We remind you all of the outcomes of over tourism, not that the privatised subscribing members tourism promotion company 'Visit Cornwall' cares......

(The 'Butler Model' (after Professor Richard Butler) is a worldwide, tried and tested model for tourist outcomes. Cornwall is reckoned to be currently high at level 3)

It is hardly wonder than so many residents of Cornwall are sick to the teeth of the outright inconvenience this out of control business inflicts on Cornwall. The internet is brimming with the views of local people.

Even the Coastguard have been compelled to step in......

(Coastguard leaflets abound as the police are absorbed with G7. But who takes any notice of politely worded leaflets?)

Meanwhile, Westcountry Ambulance have declared a 'critical alert'. We feel for the poor paramedics but the whole situation was thoroughly predictable, wasn't it?

We understand from our many contacts that protest groups are getting ready for a 'long hot summer of discontent' in Cornwall starting with the G7.

We can live in hope as more and more turn their backs on politicians and their out of touch solutions.

Kemereugh wyth onen hag oll!
