Gaelscoil Mhic Ahmlaigh was established in 1993 with just 20 pupils. Since then the Irish language school has continued to grow. Their increased numbers had to be catered for by the building of additional Portacabins. Now the pupils have moved to new premises on the west side of the city of Galway (Irish: Gaillimh). The building on Millars Lane in Knocknacarra now has 24 classrooms, offices, support rooms and sports facilities and can accommodate 720 pupils. The new school will be one of the biggest primary schools in Ireland operating through the medium of Irish and is a short distance from the old site.
