The economy of the Isle of Man (Manx: Mannin) is looking toward a growth rate of between 3 and 4 per cent this year. Figures for the three months up to the end of June show encouraging outlooks for manufacturing, shipping, e-business, tourism, clean technology and aircraft registration. These are postive outlooks for the island which is free from the incumbency of English dominated rule.
The self-governing island and one of the six Celtic nations (Isle of Man, Ireland, Cornwall, Wales, Brittany and Scotland) is set in the Irish Sea to the east of the Irish coast. The Point of Ayre (Manx: Kione ny h-Ayrey) at its northern tip is some sixteen miles (26 kilometres) to the south of Scotland’s Burrow Head which is situated in the Machars peninsula (Scottish Gaelic: Machair) in Dumfries and Galloway (Scottish Gaelic: Dùn Phrìs is Gall-Ghaidhealaibh), located in the southwest of Scotland.
