Our friends at ‘ForcesWatch’ forward their latest bulletin which includes details of their ongoing campaign opposing recruitment of children into the armed forces and the targeting of school for recruitment propaganda.
I find it ironic that the Isle of Man Department of Education and its Minister Graham Cregeen MHK had ‘the skitters’ when it emerged recently that a primary school may have exposed children to the influence of the Islamic religion when the topic of militarisation of children is effectively encouraged in schools.
Some parliaments including the Scottish and Welsh have reservations about recruitment and teaching bodies notably the EIS in Scotland have taken a stand on it.
However in the Isle of Man while ‘the words of the prophet’ may be considered inimical to children how to slaughter your fellow man, usually, btw, in their country which the Brits and others are occupying, is considered suitable fodder for the curriculum.
Anyway sticking with ForcesWatch they advise that over the course of this year a new 82 min film ‘WAR SCHOOL’ will be screened throughout Britain perhaps Minister Cregeen could arrange some showings in Island schools.
You might conclude from their remit that Forceswatch are unreservedly hostile to serving personnel but this is not so. Another item in this month's bulletin highlights is the recent work by LIBERTY (the UK rights body) to ensure serving personnel have the same access to rights and justice as civilian counterparts.
