A Cornwall Live article, no matter how well intentioned, has caused much offence.
A number of readers of the website which describes itself as "the leading news, sport, entertainment and information website for Cornwall, bringing you everything you need to know about our wonderful 'county' (sic) live and as it happens. It’s the online home of the West Briton, Cornish Guardian and Cornishman newspapers and Cornwall Today magazine..." were horrified to read the following headline:
"Why Cornish people should stop being so lazy and take responsibility for their rubbish | Opinion"
The secondary title reads: "Some people are still choose to put their uncovered bin bags out the night before collection providing an easy target for circling gulls"
Now, although the piece makes many perfectly reasonable points accompanied by photographs, several social media sites including our own have accrued a number of comments about the copy.
A couple of these comments have now spilled over onto the 'Cornwall Live' website and we reproduce them hereunder. They really do speak for themselves, don't they? Indeed, we couldn't have put it better ourselves.
So we say, 'come on 'Cornwall Live', your reporters (bless them) do a fair enough job although we are all missing the local news which seems to be increasingly replaced with generic material from across the owning group, but your editing and sub editing leaves a lot to be desired!'
Oh, those comments:

The title of this article is misleading to say the least. In case you're unaware, Cornish people are an ethnic minority in their own right. If you're inferring that one particular nationality, for want of a better word, is responsible for litter problems then shame on you. However, I assume you actually mean 'Cornwall's residents' and that the title is purely thoughtless. That being said, there's really very little excuse on the 'Cornwall live' website. Added to that, a significant amount of waste is generated by holiday homes, who incidentally should be paying for their waste collections but simply don't bother, because the mentality seems to be 'I don't live here so why bother caring?' I would appreciate some more thought and/or editing before these sorts of articles are published as they are completely misleading.

RegnadDetsaw - I'd like to shake you by the hand! This is just one of many snipes made at members of the Cornish national minority. Without doubt, others are equally 'lazy'. Bigotry at its worst.....again! 'People of Cornwall' , 'residents of Cornwall' would be far more acceptable and doubtless accurate too. Just another sign of the steady slide of this newspaper and its website. No wonder its print versions are dying a slow death!'
