In Scotland, events leading up to the 2014 referendum on independence are chronicled along with implications of what a "yes" vote may have for nationalist sentiments in Wales and Cornwall.  Issues connected to the shortage of qualified Gaelic teachers in Scotland are also discussed. In news of Brittany, political developments are reviewed and gains by the Breton Democratic Union have led to the election of a Breton Nationalist to the French Parliament. The decline in Welsh speakers disclosed by the 2011 census is cited as cause for the Welsh government to strengthen the preservation, protection and promotion of the Welsh language. In Ireland, the impact of budget cuts on programs supporting the Irish language in the Republic are highlighted as well as the Council of Europe’s call on Northern Ireland's Stormont Assembly to implement Irish language legislation. Local political news relevant to Cornish Celtic culture are reviewed along with the news that "A commission to discuss the progress and development of the Standard Written Form of the Cornish language over the past five years will meet in 2013". In Manx news, progress in maintaining and strengthening Manx language education is assessed and comments are made on what long term impact the referendum in Scotland, and UK tax policy, may have on the status of the Isle of Man as a British Crown Dependency.
