The Cornish Culture Association presents its very own Allantide celebration. Allantide is the Cornish version of Halloween. During the evening we will be celebrating the unique customs associated with the time of year., These include 1) The giving of Allan apples 2) The family table 3) The tindle bonfire 4) The apple cross game and much more.
Please make a turnip Jack-O-Lantern - Prize for the best one. If you have a pumpkin they are welcome but won't be able to enter the competition.
Please dress in "Guise costume" without mask (Allantide marks the start of the Cornish Culture Association Guise Season which will include Montol and Candlemass) and bring with you a memento of a loved one (human or animal) who has passed away for the family table (as you arrive you will place the memento on the family table). This is a party to celebrate those who have passed away at the end of the evening we will gather round the "family table" and share stories of those who have passed.
Please bring stories, musical instruments and other forms of entertainment. During the evening a bonfire will be lit and chestnuts thrown in to the fire as is the tradition (symbolically to bring good fortune and mark the end of summer).
