Dinefwr Castle (Castell Dinefwr), while on the site of previous castles, is a thirteenth century structure. A round tower within the curtain wall and another in the inner ward remain, some of the buildings have been partially restored. The location is about one mile west of Llandeilo with views over the Tywi valley. The castle can be reached by footpath through the park of Newton Mansion known as Dinefwr Park and is about a mile south west of Llandeilo.
Don't miss this castle. Managed by The National Trust/Yr Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol, Dinefwr Park and Castle Walks are beautiful. The Castle, which is managed by Cadw, is reached by a walk up through the woods from the Welcome Centre. There is a charge but it is worth every penny. It was October 2012 when we went to the site and the trees were beginning to change colour and shed their leaves. It had been a showery day and that gave Castell Dinefwr a special dark brooding atmosphere. The magical feeling of Halloween hung over the site and it's surrounds. Exploring the Castle was a delight and the views over the Tywi Valley were wonderful. We recommend a visit and that you give yourself time to explore the Castle Walk.
