Euros 2016 - Congratulations Wales

Congratulations to Wales, who beat Russia 3 - 0 at the Euro Championship in France last night. They qualified top of their group to reach the last 16 in the tournament. The 2016 UEFA European Championship (the international men's football championship of Europe) started on 10 June and ends on 10 July 2016.

There is a bizarre case unfolding in North Wales at the moment surrounding the alleged activities of a man, John Arthur Jones, said at the start of his case last year to have become obsessed with the activities of military training aircraft over his home.

Summer Solstice 2016

The summer solstice is the longest day of the year and in the northern hemisphere, it can fall on different dates from year to year, between 20 and 22 June. In the southern hemisphere it is between December 20 and December 23. In the Celtic nations in 2016, it falls on Monday 20 June. The winter solstice which is the shortest day of the year falls between 20 and 22 December.  In the Celtic homelands in 2016, this will fall on 21 December .

Frongoch Easter Rising Prisoners Remembered

Frongoch internment camp in north Wales was used to hold Irish Republican prisoners from the 1916 Rising.  A series of events were held at Frongoch on Junes 10th - 11th 2016 to mark the centenary of the internment camp and its importance in the Irish War of Independence. As reported on BBC Cymru a march took place which was supported amongst others by a number of groups from Ireland and Wales.

MOD: No LQA Undertaken At Chemical Weapons Sites In Wales And Cornwall

News From The Celtic League:

The Ministry of Defence has responded in quite specific detail to queries we raised with them about the chemical weapons manufacturing site at Nancekuke in Cornwall and also chemical weapons storage facilities in Wales at Llanberis and Llandrog.

We had written to them in late April enquiring if Land Quality Assessments (LQAs) undertaken at all current and disused MOD sites had included the three chemical weapons sites (link):

Cornish And The Other Celtic Languages

There are many forms of heritage, built and spoken amongst them.

That's why we are promoting the importance of Cornish language which the Westminster Government is trying to destroy by unlawfully breaching the charter agreement signed in 2002 and deliberately holding from us £150,000 of OUR tax money intended for language development.

The Tale of Three Statues On Heritage Sites!

News from Kernow Matters To Us:

Here is the tale of three statues.

One is situated in Llandovery, Cymru and is set next to the castle there which is managed by the Welsh Heritage Agency, CADW. It depicts a real historical figure, Prince Llewellyn the Great who was probably the last true Prince of Wales before the English at the time forcibly occupied Wales. Llewellyn was a real Welsh hero. The statue looks rather elegant and sits alongside the castle mound not interfering with the archaeology of the site.

Urdd National Eisteddfod 2016 Gets Underway

The Urdd National Eisteddfod (Welsh: Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Urdd Gobaith Cymru) starts this week (30 May – 4 June) in Flintshire (Welsh: Sir y Fflint) in north-east Wales. Around 15,000 competitors and estimated visitors numbering 90,000 will visit the week-long event being held on a site surrounding Flint High School (Ysgol Uwchradd y Fflint). One of Europes largest youth festivals the annual Welsh-language youth festival of literature, music and performing arts is organised by Urdd Gobaith Cymru.  

Cornish Campaign Group Sends Government Planning Minister Broadside

'Kernow Matters to Us' (KMTU) sent members to speak at the recent hearing and examination of the so called 'Cornwall Local Plan' held in Newquay.

This was run by an unelected Planning Inspector sent down from Bristol.

It was apparent from the outset that the developers from up country were being given preferential treatment.

Kernow cannot sustain the level of housing proposed.

This has resulted in the following letter of complaint being sent by one of our members to the government.

Alleged Damage To Merlin Carving At Tintagel Castle

This late afternoon, 'Kernow Matters to Us' (KMTU) has been in receipt of several 'urgent' emails and telephone calls from representatives of the press and general media informing that the nose of the cliffside carving said to represent 'Merlin' contracted at Tintagel Castle by English Heritage has been allegedly smashed away by persons unknown.
