HEDD WYN

Our colleagues at Yr Undeb Geltaidd - Cangen Cymru Wales Branch Celtic League have an interesting post (lifted from History Wales) about the biopic on Welsh writer and poet ‘Hedd Wyn’ (Ellis Humphrey Evans) who was killed in WW1. He was posthumously awarded the bard's chair at the 1917 National Eisteddfod.

The film premiered twenty years ago today and eventually was the first Welsh language film nominated for an Academy award.

Wales March On To Semi Finals of Euro 2016 After Victory Over Belgium

Wales (Cymru) are through to the semi-finals of the 2016 UEFA European Championship (the international men's football championship of Europe). They secured a well deserved 3 - 1 victory over Belgium last night.

Belgium started well and took an early lead after a spectacular long-range shot from Radja Nainggolan. But Wales equalised before half-time through an Ashley Williams header. In the second half Hal Robson-Kanu's skillful footwork put Wales ahead. The third goal for Wales was scored by substitute Sam Vokes who headed home a well passed cross from Chris Gunter.

Michael Joseph (An Gof) and Thomas Flamank Who Laid Down Their Lives For Cornwall

News from Kernow Maters To Us:

"a name perpetual and a fame permanent and immortal"

On this day in 1497, Michael Joseph (An Gof) and Thomas Flamank of Bodmin, were hung drawn and quartered for leading a Cornish army against the English government of the day.

People forget the reasons why this happened. The primary cause was the response by the impoverished Cornish population to the raising of war taxes by King Henry VII to raise money for his campaign against Scotland.

Wales Secure Place In Quarter Finals Of Euro 2016

Wales secured their place in the quarter finals of Euro 2016 with a 1-0 victory over Northern Ireland in Paris yesterday. The next match for Wales at the 2016 UEFA European Championship (the international men's football championship of Europe) will now be played on Friday 1st July at Lille. For more information see the The Football Association of Wales (Welsh: Cymdeithas Bêl-droed Cymru) website.

Fighting Those Who Wish To Concrete Over Kernow

News From Kernow Matters To Us:

KMTU members with other organisations have battled those who wish to concrete over Kernow.

With our membership growing on a daily basis as a sense of unease grips the people of Cornwall over so many issues, we pay tribute to those members who have fought hard to slow the concreting over of Cornwall.
