Wales' highest mountain just keeps getting bigger!

As reported in the Welsh newspaper the Daily Post the tallest mountain in Wales, Snowdon (Welsh: Yr Wyddfa) is getting bigger. The mountain which is located in Snowdonia National Park (Welsh: Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri) in North Wales has now been measured as standing at  3,563 feet (1,086 m) whilst previously it has been measured at 3,560 feet (1,085 m).

However, the official measurement will remain at 3,560 feet because the increase in height could be put down to human interference with additional material being placed on the summit over the years.

Some of these additions go back many centuries. According to legend on top of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) is the burial mound of Rhita Gawr. A Welsh leader killed by King Arthur. However, other sites in Wales are identified with the legend and also beyond in other Celtic lands such as St Michael’s Mount (Cornish: Karrek Loos yn Koos) in Cornwall and Huelgoat (Breton: An Uhelgoad)) in Brittany.
