UK PM Cameron Fears Debate with Scotland’s First Minister on Independence

United kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron’s reluctance to debate idependence with Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond is starting to become an issue with Scotland‘s voters. In a poll commisioned by the Scottish National Party carried out by Panelbase in December 63% of people in Scotland wanted this debate. Even across the UK a majority of 56% thought a referendum debate should take place.

Scotland’s First Minister has long called for such a debate and recently wrote to the UK Prime Minister following Cameron’s New Year message in which he argued against independence. Mr Salmond response by letter stated: "It seems that you [Cameron] want to dictate the terms of the debate about Scotland’s future without taking the democratic responsibility to defend your views in open debate. That is simply unacceptable."

Cameron’s refusal to debate is making many wonder if he is running scared of a head to head confrontation with Alex Salmond and that this in itself speaks volumes.
