POLICE SCOTLAND ALERTED TO ABUSE DIRECTED AT SNP LEADER

Just two days after we expressed concern about unwarranted and vitriolic abuse aimed at politicians a further instance of the behavior has come to light.

Again the politician being targeted is SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon.

The ‘Wings over Scotland’ website has identified the person responsible and contacted Police Scotland who are already probing earlier abuse directed at Ms Sturgeon from another source (see link):

‘Wings’, which has also been the subject of attacks in the past and has successfully taken on the bullies, also highlights the double-standards being adopted by the media.

They point out that the media are (rightly) indignant about attacks on one of their colleague’s journalists (The BBC Scottish correspondent James Cook) and have highlighted abuse suffered by him. However the media seems less willing to highlight the abuse directed at the Scottish Nationalist leader.

Indeed some of the UK presss headlines seem to be a positive incitement to ‘nut cases’ to have a go at the Scottish First Minister.

Abusive attacks on journalists even when they are peddling a message that we as Nationalists may not like are to be deplored. However equally attacks on political leaders like Ms Sturgeon should also be condemned by all. There is a fine line between fair criticism and acceptable satire far too often in relation to SNP senior figures the line is crossed.

Alex Salmond for years had to suffer this unwarranted abuse now it seems his successor also is in the firing line, but to her credit Ms Sturgeon seems more than able to fight her corner.
