Manx Registered Companies Under Spotlight in Dail

NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

The anti-austerity programme in Ireland is surrounded with controversy and nothing is more contentious than the decision to meter and charge for water.

A number of anti-water charges demonstrators are currently in jail and the situation seems set to escalate.

We can also reveal that allegations have been made about a number of Manx registered companies (Millington and Clyde Properties) in the Dail.

In December (2014) the Independent TD, Catherine Murphy, asked specific questions about the awarding of the metering contract – she was not happy with the reply she received (see 2 links):

Then this week a much more serious exchange occurred when outspoken Independent TD, Mick Wallace, was challenged over remarks he made under privilege in the Dail by Alan Dukes.

Mr Dukes the former State appointed Chairman of Anglo Irish Bank called on Deputy Wallace to withdraw the allegations he made saying they had ‘no foundation’.

However according to this Irish Times report Mr Wallace would seem to be standing by his remarks.

The controversy surrounding companies registered off-shore couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Manx government anxious to move on after United Kingdom Labour Party Leader Ed Milliband suggested that a future Labour government would clamp down on the issue in all British Overseas Territories and Dependencies.
