Irish Football Fans Win Friends In Euros 2016

The football fans of the Republic of Ireland continue to win friends in France as the 2016 UEFA European Championship (the international men's football championship of Europe) continues. The Championship started on 10 June and ends on 10 July 2016. Irish fans have been heavily praised by locals for their impeccable behaviour in the French capital this week. Pictures of Irish fans changing a tyre for an elderly couple in France spread around social media sites. The Irish fans have been described as soaking up the atmosphere, mingling well with other fans, enjoying themselves and not causing any problems whatsoever.

This is in stark contrast to the hooliganism displayed by hundreds of English football supporters. Following scenes of violence involving England fans in Marseilles at least 36 have been arrested in Lille overnight following clashes with Police. The English media has often tried to use the violence of Russian fans as an excuse for the unacceptable behaviour of England supporters. However, both the England and Russian national football teams have been told that they face expulsion from the tournament due to their fans behaviour.
