Cymru: TV licence fee to be withheld in devolved broadcasting campaign

News from the Celtic League:

Report here from Wales online about what appears to be the start of a direct action campaign by some members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg (the Welsh Language Society) to have broadcasting devolved to Wales (link):

Welsh language TV/Broadcasting protests have enjoyed considerable success in the past not least leading to the establishment of the dedicated Welsh language TV channel S4C.

More generally Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg supporters are noted for the tenacity of their direct action campaigns although it’s unclear from the report if this campaign is an officially sanctioned action.

With considerable disenchantment in Scotland over the issue of the failure of Westminster to devolve broadcasting to the Scottish Parliament this campaign when it takes of also has the capacity to prompt a parallel move by Scottish nationalists
