Commemorations of 1916 Rising Being Held on 24 April 2016

News From The Celtic League:

The Easter Rising (Irish: Éirí Amach na Cásca), began on Easter Monday, 24 April 1916. To mark the centenary a number of events are being held on 24th April 2016. The Citizen’s Commemoration is being held by the National Graves Association (NGA) (Irish: Cumann Uaigheann na Laochra Gael) www.nga.ie organised in conjunction with Reclaim 1916. Assembling at the GPO at 12 then marching to Glasnevin for the official unveiling of the revamped 1916 monument at St.Paul's, Glasnevin. Reclaim 1916 www.reclaim1916.ie also have an event in the city centre with a start at 14.00 at Merrion Square with a march to the GPO in period dress where a festival of music, dance and readings will be held.

The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) are also calling on members from all of its clubs and members of the public to join them at Croke Park on Sunday April 24 for the Association’s national 1916 Commemorative Event.

GAA President Aogán Ó Fearghail said: “This is a very special day for Cumann Lúthchleas Gael and we would urge all of our members and indeed supporters to join us at Croke Park for what should be a day to remember on the anniversary of the Rising 100 years to the day of this seismic event in Irish history”.
